Smoking

February 28th, 2006 by Fuzz

CigarettesI don’t smoke. Okay, sometimes when I’m at a bar with friends I smoke, but I don’t smoke on a regular basis. In fact, I hate the smell of smoke when I’m eating. There is a family restaurant in West Bend that I don’t even go to anymore because the smell of smoke is so bad that I can’t stand it.

That being said, I think that bans on smoking are downright silly! If you don’t like smoke at a restaurant, go to a different restaurant. If enough people don’t go to a particular restaurant because of the smoke, eventually the owner will have to make a policy change - but, that change is his/her choice. We don’t need a law to say, “you can’t smoke in restaurants/bars.” Vote with your wallet. Take your money elsewhere if you don’t like it. I’m sure there are bars in town that you wouldn’t take your kids, anyway. Why should they lose business because you don’t like smoke?

Speaking of all of that, we were sat in the “no smoking section” at Champps the other day (Woodbury, MN). It was 3 feet from the bar, and there was no type of barrier at all. Eating my buffalo chicken sandwhich was not as enjoyable when I had to inhale someone’s Pall Mall’s during lunch.

    I am with you Fuzz.

I am a smoker. I have very strong opinions about this. The government cannot force an owner to ban smoking. Any owner has to weigh that decision for themselves. What’s next? Will local goverment ban deep fried foods? Alcohol-how did that work again?

I would also like to state that I do not smoke during dinner in restaurants. I go to the bar to do so. If Milwaukee ever bans smoking in bars I am moving to Ireland, oh crap, they already banned smoking, and smoking is Ireland’s national pasttime.

I know which restaurant you are talking about Fuzz. West Bend tried to do the same thing a while back. It failed at the polls thank god. Do these people not learn from history? Prohibition would be a good example for them to study.

I will say that I do get annoyed with smokers I see driving down the road, with the windows rolled up and their kids strapped into the car-seats in back. Nice.
