Come in Threes

Thursday, June 29th, 2006 by Fuzz

1) About a month or so ago, I ran over something in the road that punctured my right rear tire and lightly damaged the wheel well in my car.

2) Last week Thursday, I hit a deer on the way in to work.

3) Last night, at 5:15PM, I was stopped at a stop light on Capital Drive in Shorewood, minding my own business, and BAM!!! I was rear-ended. The woman was likely travelling around 35MPH.

I have some minor whiplash and slightly-bruised ribs. She was fine, as far as I could tell.

My seat broke, and the back of my car is pretty much junk (broken taillight brackets, busted trunk, crumpled bumper (under the bumper cover) and damage to both panels in front of the bumpers). All of that stuff is fixable, so I’m not going to sweat it. We both have insurance, so that will get put to good use.

I’m just glad that baby Bri wasn’t in the car with me at the time. (I dropped her off about 20mins before the accident)

“It could be worse.” I’ll call that my mantra.

Pictures after the break…

No Kite Tubing for Me

Thursday, June 29th, 2006 by Fuzz

Wego Death TubeFor weeks, Steve Kearns and I have been talking about this Wego Kite Tube that he purchased, that I was going to attempt to tackle this weekend at Steve’s cabin in Shawano.I have decided, though, after hearing the tragic story of Gregory Bykowski of Delafied, that I am not going to even attempt to get big air on the Kite Tube. Mr. Bykowski died after flying up in the air and crashing down to the water. Reports have stated that he was anywhere from 2 feet to 40 feet in the air before he crashed to the water below.

I wouldn’t want my daughter to witness her father’s death. And the way things have been going lately, (more on that later) I wouldn’t be surprised if something really bad happened to me.

Not Kite Tubing is the responsible thing for me to do - though I think it would be fun.

BTW, I am pretty sure Wal*Mart has stopped selling this product. As of my last check, every mention of the Wego Kite Tube has been removed from their website. A search for “Wego” turns up “Lego” products, but says there is no product available named “Wego.” I know it was there last week, because I was showing all of my friends how “cool” the Kite Tube is, and directing them to the Wal*Mart website to see the video.

Drinking Water: No | Poo-filled Water: Yes

Thursday, June 29th, 2006 by Fuzz

From the MetroSource News Wire:

(Lansing, MI)  –  Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm is saying no to a community which wants to use water from Lake Michigan for drinking water.  The application from New Berlin, Wisconsin would be subject to a federal law requiring the approval of all Great Lakes governors for any water diversion from the Great Lakes.  The state of Wisconsin has not formally requested permission from the region.

Apparently it is okay for the MMSD to dump millions of gallons of untreated or partially treated human waste into Lake Michigan, but don’t even think about letting a community with high radium levels use that water for drinking.

Ridiculous.

Old School 2

I really hope this doesn’t ruin the original. I don’t know how you could make a sequel to Old School, but I’ll plop down my $17 to see it.

Dean’s Got it Right

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 by Fuzz

… and I’m not talking about Howard Dean. :D

From Musings of a Thoughtful Conservative:

You can almost see the left’s collective lip quivering as they foam over a report that General Casey projected that the number of U.S. troops in Iraq would decrease.

Once it happens, a troop pullout will be referred to as “political pandering.”

The Limbaugh Letter = V

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006 by Fuzz

Rush Limbaugh was caught with a bottle of Viagra that allegedly wasn’t his. You would think that after all that he put himself through during pain-killer-gate, that he would make sure to have a prescription for even his asprin.

Choose your favorite ending to this story:

  1. Apparently, not breaking the law is HARD for Rush to do.
  2. Rush was HARD pressed to get a hold of his attorney.
  3. This is HARDly anything for Rush to worry about.

So, now I’m making boner jokes. I could just stop and grow up. But it’s so HARD. Bwahahahahahahaha….

Terrorist Times

Monday, June 26th, 2006 by Fuzz

I would never consider myself a ‘reactionary,’ but I am very conservative when it comes to the protection of our great nation. That being said, if one terrorist sneaks through the FBI’s or CIA’s grasp due to the publishing of yet another secret anti-terrorism measure, Bill Keller of the New York Times, as well as the executive editors of the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post, should be arrested and tried for treason. If found guilty, they should be put to death in front of the firing squad.

They can hide behind the Freedom of the Press all they want, but publishing top-secret military and intelligence tactics is treasonous.

They won’t really have to worry about the Freedom of the Press when their city is incinerated by a nuclear bomb that they helped sneak past our defenses. Whether their intent was malicious, or simply agenda-driven, they should be held accountable for their actions.

Truly despicable.

Hardwood Floors

Monday, June 26th, 2006 by Fuzz

HWFloorsBefore I purchased my home, I pulled up the awful, icky, disgusting carpet in each room to check for hardwood floors. Both bedrooms had great looking hardwoods that were protected by a really thick padding. The kitchen, however, appeared to have this seriously disgusting carpet pasted to a subfloor.

The other day, my buddy Brad and his girlfriend Ericka stopped by. Ericka, a big fan of HGTV, said that she thought it was really strange that I didn’t have hardwood floors in my kitchen as well. She urged me to check again. So, I did, and low and behold - underneath the carpet is a layer of gym floor laminate tiles, and under that layer is a beautiful hardwood floor! (well, it will be beautiful when I’m done with it! :) )

Now I don’t have to worry about tiling, and I get to experiment with refinishing a hardwood floor! I guess it pays to take a second look.

Thanks Ericka!

Christian-based Irony

Friday, June 23rd, 2006 by Fuzz

There is a commercial on the radio that makes me chuckle every time I hear it. The commercial is for a builder that talks about these lavish homes with extravagant accountrements. At the end of the commercial, the owner says, “a Christian-based company.”

I like the thought of having an indoor pool, an indoor basketball court, or even his and hers master bathrooms. I don’t, however, think that Jesus would build a 4,000 sq. ft home with an observation tower. (though he would deserve it)

By the way, this is not slam on the builder. I like the delivery of the commercials, and I have been in their homes - they are beautiful. I just think the commercial is ironic.

I’ve gone UNIX

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 by Claude

I am posting this from a UNIX machine on the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) campus.  Working hard in my Comp Sci 1902 class, I have found time to write a post while waiting for my BubbleSort program to compile and test.  Oh yeah.

Of course, I went UNIX a long time ago, when Mac did =)

I’m feeling pretty good, I have actually written (with a little help) a complete sorting function that works.  I doubt I will get to the level of *nerd-dom* that Fuzz is, with programming, but at least I will be able to understand his *go-to* jokes.

Jack Murtha - Terrorist?

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 by Fuzz

Murtha Bin LadenWith the amount of coverage the mainstream media is giving him lately, I am really starting to believe that Congressman John Murtha is a terrorist. Basically, if you took the words that spew out of Murtha’s mouth on a daily basis, and placed them in the mouth of an Al Qaeda terrorist, they wouldn’t seem out of place.

For the sake of our soldiers, our country’s morale, and our country’s position in the eyes of the world, Murtha should shut the hell up and crawl back into his cave. (or he can just take up arms with the enemy and we’ll do to him like we do to the rest of the worlds’ terrorists.)

You know you’re a non-traditional student, when you walk into a lecture hall full of ‘kids’ and realize you have a Nuk in your pocket. Ugh!

Tinkering with SandVox

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 by Fuzz

SandvoxMy dad turned me on to the web-(in-a-box)publishing software called, SandVox. I have been playing around with it a little, and in a little under 5 minutes, I created this website: http://brianna.fuzzmartin.com. I should say, it’s pretty slick! There are a great amount of designs to play with, and if you own a Mac, you can have your own website up and running in little or no time at all!

Just My Luck

Monday, June 19th, 2006 by Fuzz

Dead deerToday, I go to court to battle my “alleged” speeding ticket from May 10th. On my way to work this morning… I tagged a deer. That’s my 4th in 11 years. UGH!

One good thing did come of this. There was Harley rider right behind me. If he was in front of me, he may of hit Bambi’s mom, and that could have turned out to be tragic.

The damage to my car isn’t “that bad.” I mean, the hood is dented and the light is pushed down some, but it looks like I can pound it out.

Count your blessings, right?

On the quest for 1001

3 more from an afternoon of re-designing websites and print pieces.

Artist - Album (Favorite song)

Slipknot - Slipknot (Eye Less)
Pearl Jam - Ten (Porch)
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head (Warning Sign)

I have to say that the Slipknot album is great, I have liked these guys since this album came out.  I am even more impressed by the fact that they are from Iowa.  Having lived in Iowa during my elementary and middle school years, I am quite surprised that this type of music/talent came from there!
