Camera Envy
June 3rd, 2007 by FuzzMost of you know by now that I am an avid photographer. I wouldn’t call myself a professional, though I have a good amount of professional gear. I just call it a, “hobby that pays.”
Yesterday, while at a remote broadcast with Mario Andretti, I ran into a guy who happened to have, by far, the coolest camera that I have ever seen in person. In fact, the only camera currently on the planet cooler than the Hassleblad 22MP H2D that he was carrying is the 39MP version of the same camera. I was in complete awe.
The photographer, who hails from Detroit, went on to tell me that he shoots for Getty Images, and that he has done shoots with Eminem and a host of other celebrities. He told me to check out his website, JoeVaughn.com, to see a smidgen of his portfolio. I encourage you to do the same. It is phenomenal.
In the end, I was more impressed with the down-to-earth Joe Vaughn than his camera - even though the camera was friggin’ awesome. I expected Vaughn, a professional photographer, to slam me, a paid hobbyist, for submitting on a microstock website (iStockPhoto.com). He didn’t though. He seemed to encourage me. It was pretty cool.
So, in the span of a week, I have introduced two new members to the FuzzMartin.com Friends of the Show links. Hey, how ’bout that.
Now if I could only scrounge up the $30,000 for a Hassleblad. Well, maybe I’ll shoot for a Canon 5D first.

Now if only my mother hadn’t let one of my father’s dear friends thoughtfully take all his Hasselblad equipment off her hands after he passed away. I really miss the Polaroid back (pre-production, hand cut on a milling machine).

That first image is from “Eminem’s: The Re-up”, the 2nd from “Encore” and the 3rd from “8 Mile”. He must do a lot of Eminem’s label work!
And the 2nd image of all portraits is The White Stripes! Sweet!

Canon? ugh, Fuzz, Nikon is all you need… I am looking at getting myself the D80 but I haven’t shown the wife the price tag yet… I know more happy Nikon users than I do Cannon users, the cannon users I know have had to have their cameras sent back and fixed due to sensor failures.

Nikon? Ugh! I own a simple Rebel XT, but I’ve taken over 9000 shots without any bad incidents. Now I just need to make enough to cover my camera, lens, speed flash, Alien Bee strobes, and background stands….
It’s gonna be a while.

I’m looking at getting a Canon A630 soon. I can’t wait to have something that shoots well.

The A630 got really good reviews on Amazon! And it seems to be a lot cheaper on Amazon than it is at some of the other online vendors.

I found it for a good price on Newegg too. They tend to run some nice packages too. I liked that it felt like I was actually holding a camera, instead of a fraction of one.
