My Weekend

Sunday, September 30th, 2007 by Fuzz

I am SO glad that I didn’t jinx this weekend by telling you all how much fun I was going to have prior to actually having it. This weekend was one of the best that I have had in a long time!

After work on Saturday, I picked up my dad’s Porsche Boxster and drove over to my friend (completely platonic, friendship for the record ;) ) Angie’s house. We were going to go for a little drive through the fall colors to get away for the afternoon.  About ten minutes into the drive, we started talking about Door County. Since it had been so long since I had actually been to Door County, and since I knew that if I didn’t go then, I wouldn’t be able to go for awhile, I said, “let’s do it.” And… we did.

I’m colorblind, so the fall colors don’t really do much for me, but I was told that were pretty cool in some spots, though mostly brown in others. What I was really concerned about was seeing road signs that resembled S’s. ;)

By the time we actually got to Door County, and let out a cheer, we realized that it was 10pm. So we crashed in a cute little roadside motel in Jacksonport. It was comfy and had two beds, so we were golden.

This morning we were finally able to see all of sights in the daylight (photos below).  It was amazing. Again, I was more interested in the roads, but there were a lot of overlooks and lake-front areas that were just phenomenal. Everything was serene and peaceful, and I haven’t been able to relax as much as I did this weekend in a rather long time.

Perfect weather, a good friend, and a really fast car that handles like it’s on rails. Awesome.

Got That Call

Friday, September 28th, 2007 by Fuzz

My ex-wife called me yesterday with one of those calls that you don’t ever want to get…

Our daughter fell off of the swing set and hit her head. She split her ear open on some rocks. It looked like it needed stitches because you could actually see the slit lengthwise down the thin edge of her ear. I got her in to the doctor’s, and it turns out that the cut wasn’t as deep as it looked, so they didn’t give her stitches… but it was a moderately scary ordeal anyway. :(

She’s all good, btw. She was just happy to get an ice pack so that she could play with it. And I’m glad that she enjoyed it… that’s like a $100 ice pack. :D

Awesome Weekend

Friday, September 28th, 2007 by Fuzz

After my appearance at the Mineshaft tonight for the 92.5 Miller High Life Country Karaoke Competition, and my remote broadcast from Napa in West Bend tomorrow from 10a-noon… I have a completely awesome weekend planned. I’m not going to jinx it by delving into details… but hopefully I’ll get some awesome photos…

…and hopefully some will have lots of motion blur. ;)  I may need a non-colorblind co-pilot, too. Hmmm…

Firesale: USA

Thursday, September 27th, 2007 by Claude

If you saw Die Hard 4 (Live Free or Die Hard), you know what a fire sale is, in terms of a cyber attack.

CNN.com features a video of an AC360 story about the possibility of such an event.  Saying that a prolonged power outtage to 1/3 of the US would be like having 50 hurricanes hit (based on the area affected, I would guess).

It’s great that everything has become so convenient and (inter)netted together that even destroying our infastructure is able to be done with the click of a mouse.

13 busted in ‘Seinfeld’ pop can scam

Seinfeld CastLife imitates art…imitates life…

From ClickOnDetroit.com (link)

DETROIT — Authorities said they arrested 13 people and seized more than $500,000 in cash after breaking up a smuggling ring that collected millions of beverage containers in other states and cashed them in for 10 cents apiece in Michigan.

“Each year, this type of activity defrauds the state approximately $13 million,” said Col. Peter Munoz, Michigan State Police director.

The charges include maintaining a continuing criminal enterprise, a 20-year felony, and fraud, a 5-year felony, the statement said.

The probe recalled a 1996 episode of “Seinfeld” in which two characters learn about Michigan’s 10-cent deposit law and head there with a truckload of 5-cent New York cans, hoping to cash in on the difference, before getting sidetracked.

Completing Today’s Musical Hat Trick

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 by Fuzz

This afternoon, while previewing some new music for the station, I came across the new song from Rodney Atkins. The song is called, “Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy).” It is like the lyrics were ripped out of a page of my life and set to music.

See… when I was 16, I dated a girl named Sara Ariss (my friends know her (affectionately?) as “The Princess.”). Her mom was German. Her dad was Lebanese. That’s a good mix, for the record. ;) Sara’s father was extremely, extremely, extremely over-protective. The first day that I met him, standing right there in his kitchen, he showed me his AK47. I swear to God! I thought he was nuts!

I say, “thought,” because I’m a father now. This song totally sums it up.

(Chorus)

Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she’s something else
She’s her daddy’s girl
Her momma’s world
She deserves respect
That’s what she’ll get
Ain’t it son?
Hey y’all run along and have some fun
I’ll see you when you get back
Bet I’ll be up all night
Still cleanin’ this gun

Gary Allan - Watching Airplanes

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 by Fuzz

Here you go, I officially have more videos than MTV today.

This may be my favorite new song on the radio. The best line:

I wonder what you’d do if you looked out your window…
And saw me runnin’ down the runway just like I was crazy…
But that fence is too high - and so am I…

Sugarland - Stay

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 by Fuzz

This is a great new song from Sugarland. Unlike all of the “man-hater” cheating songs on the radio today (Kerosene, Before He Cheats, Cheatin’, et al) this song keeps it pretty real. I like it.

US Economy to Suffer…

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 by Claude

as Halo 3 is released today.  Very similar to when the Star Wars movies were released, expect for stories in the media to announce that hundreds of thousands of American (single male) workers called in sick today due to the release of Halo 3.

While I do not own an XBox or XBox 360, I can tell you that having only played the original Halo for 30 minutes, the game kicks ass.

Generic Proposal

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 by Fuzz

Okay, I’m not normally into mushy crap like this, but I thought this story was pretty cool. Apparently a guy in Boston was clever enough (and had enough pull) to get the crossword writers to embed a marriage proposal to his girlfriend in the Boston Globe Sunday magazine.

Then they got to 111 across: “Generic proposal” (Jen + Aric generic). The answer: “Will you marry me?”

Cheers to the creativity on Aric’s part. That’s a pretty cool story.

Redneckium

Some good ol’ fashioned redneck fun… complete with 1) Dem Duke Boys, 2) Hoss, 3) Really bad lip syncing. It’s a great song, though!!!

Sick

Monday, September 24th, 2007 by Fuzz

Last night, between dropping off my daughter and going to school to work my butt off for a group project, I swung by the place that I always go to get my hair cut. The girl who normally cuts my hair wasn’t in, so I got stuck with the next guy in line. Apparently this guy had just gotten done smoking a cigarette before he cut my hair, because his friggin’ hands stunk. That led to my hair stinking like stale smoke and pomade for the rest of the evening. Friggin’ gross.

If you read this, you smoke, and you touch people’s head (or any part of their body)  for a living, please wash your phucking hands. Seriously. In fact, wash your hands even if you aren’t a smoker. Hell, I’m going to wash my hands right now just to feel better about myself. UGH!

Cautiously Optimistic

Monday, September 24th, 2007 by Fuzz

How ’bout them Packers? What a great game to watch!!! We beat the Eagles AND the Chargers. Two of the teams that I had marked down as losses this season. That either means that great things are to come, or, more likely, we’re going to lose to some cupcake teams later this year.

It’s nice to have some renewed confidence in the Pack. It’s been awhile since I’ve actually wanted to sit through a game.

Go Pack!
