Coldplay released their newest single, Violet Hill, for free on their website (coldplay.com) yesterday.
The track is ok and I am sure the free download was inspired by Radiohead who allowed anyone to download the album and pay whatever price they wanted for it (or not pay for it at all).
Of course, Coldplay is still signed to a recording label (Radiohead isn’t), so Coldplay’s free download is a marketing gimmick by the record company and Radiohead’s free download can be attributed to their appreciation of their art more than their paycheck from record sales.
I was checking out Claude’s Facebook page and then I got the sudden urge to listen to “Moment of Clarity,” by Jay-Z — and then I found this great version from DangerMouse.
Even though I live in Western Wisconsin and work in the Twin Cities, I love to call Fuzz at work and request songs (that I will never get to hear played on the radio).
I have been requesting Kenny Chesney’s “Back Where I Come From” lately…only to be told by Fuzz that his station doesn’t play it because it was never released as a single. BUMMER! It’s a great tune.
So, Fuzz Martin Dot Com-ers, I give to you, Back Where I Come From…it’s a great song for all of us who grew up in small towns!
ps. Kenny Chesney is a member of the greatest Fraternity in the world, Lambda Chi Alpha.
John Oliver’s Terrifying Times standup on Comedy Central is just hilarious…if you have 60 free minutes, take the time to watch it.
Fuzz can’t stand having the top post on the site be from anyone other than him.
[UPDATE]: Post moved to the top by Fuzz… so that Claude feels better. He just posts faster than I do, so technically, he’s a winner. Haha!

The lyrics are rather disturbing… but I still love this song.
I read Tom’s 4-Block “Take A Letter, My Maria,” earlier this week, and I’ve had this song stuck in my head ever since.
R.B. Greaves - Take A Letter, Maria
It’s probably blasphemous, but I prefer the Doug Stone version of this song (but I couldn’t find it).
I dig this song.

Like Fuzz & his Van Halen post…these are some songs in my head, this morning. Enjoy!
Likin’ the old stuff today:
For some reason this song popped into my head today. Ah, memories.
I heard this over the weekend and it reminded me of 4th-floor Arey Hall, circa 1996. Mike Hess used to play this song ad nauseum.
Good times.
Play on, playa.
What? Okaaaaaay! …it may be Little Jonathan Winery. No joke. (well, kinda joke). From the AP via The Superficial:
“It kind of came out of nowhere,” Lil Jon told The Associated Press of his new venture, Little Jonathan Winery. “We were just going to do some private label stuff (for parties) and we did it, and people was like, `Hey, it’s pretty nice.’”
Lil Jon acknowledges that he’s no wine connoisseur. “I’m not no ‘drink wine every day’ kind of dude,” he said in a telephone interview. “I’m not like an expert, so don’t ask me no questions … I just like the taste.”
This is INSANE. If I was a felon and then was caught purchasing unregistered machine guns, can bet your ass I would be up in the clink for a few years.
But, going par for the course, rapper T.I. (real name Clifford Harris) has avoided a “lengthy prison sentence” by agreeing to perform 1,000 hours of community service (while being able to live at his plush mansion) and must tell kids “not to make the same mistakes he did”. He then has to spend 1 year in prison.
Of course, those mistakes will most certainly be well-documented (and profitted off of) in his forthcoming albums, where the music will fly in the face of his commuted sentence. So, kids remember, if T.I. says “don’t use guns” to you on a tv commercial, that is what he REALLY FEELS, if he says “I hit’em up with my A-K” blasted in a car stereo, THAT is just entertainment.
Here’s an OLD SKOOL joint for ya’ll!
While in the shower this morning, I remember seeing Urban Dance Squad in Madison (with Little Blue Crunchy Things) back in the day. Here is Deeper Shade of Soul, UDS’s “big” hit.Â
ps. Fred Durst, Incubus, 3-11 and everyone involved in rap-rock/rapcore music owes UDS everything for breaking out that style in 1987!
…but all that sh*t seems to disappear when I’m with you…
Love this song.
Where rhythm is life, and life is rhythm…
Mount up.
