Honestly…

Thursday, March 6th, 2008 by Fuzz

On of my “business” professors was late to class today because he was busy watching the Brett Favre retirement press conference. Pretty damn professional. We’re now five minutes into when class was supposed to start and we still haven’t gotten down to business. Sheesh!

Brett Favre Retires

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 by Fuzz

FoxSports.com is reporting that Brett Favre is retiring from the Green Bay Packers! He’s had a great career and I’m glad that he was on “our” team.

The most storied quarterback career in NFL history is coming to a close.

FOXSports.com has learned that legendary quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire. In fact, it’s believed he informed the Packers of his decision within the last few days, although it’s unclear when Favre and the team will make his decision known.

So barring an unforeseen last-minute change of heart, Favre will leave the game after 17 years, during which he built himself into a household name and a figure synonymous with grit, toughness and perseverance.

Neither GM Ted Thompson nor head coach Mike McCarthy returned several calls left by FOXSports.com for confirmation.

After flirting with retirement for the last few years, Favre will finally go out on the heels of one of the best seasons of his career.

Pedro Martinez participates in a cockfight

Thursday, February 7th, 2008 by Claude

An article posted on SportsIllustrated.com tells of a (now removed) YouTube video showing New York Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal participating in a cockfight.

It will be interesting to see if there is any type of fan backlash against these athletes, a la Michael Vick.  Don’t expect any arrests or contract terminations, as the cockfight was held in the Dominican Republic where cockfighting is legal.

On the Giants

Monday, February 4th, 2008 by Fuzz

The first Superbowl that I ever watched was the Giants vs. Broncos back in 1987 (’86 season). I was eight years old at the time and I fell in love with Phil Simms and the game of football in general. It could have had something to do with me being allowed to stay up past my bedtime to finish watching the game, too. ;) After the game, I was a Packers fan and a Giants fan. The Pack always came first even though they sucked eggs during the 80’s.

For some reason, right before this past season started, I purchased a New York Giants t-shirt. Clairvoyant? No… but it was a pretty cool coincidence. Last night was probably one of the most exciting Superbowls that I have watched since the Packers beat New England in ‘97. I was cheering on the Giants… and I felt like a kid again. Manning’s touchdown pass with 35 seconds left was too, too sweet!

Thanks to my buddy Sean for loaning me a spot in his living room to watch his sweet HD. Also, congrats to reader/contributer OOS and his wife for being “with child.”

Have to Hear It

Saturday, January 19th, 2008 by Fuzz

Somebody e-mailed this to me… :D

A man goes to the Chicago Bear ticket office and inquires about purchasing
play-off tickets. The ticket teller replies that there weren’t any
tickets for sale because the Bears did not make it to the play-offs.

The following day the same man goes to the Chicago Bear ticket office and
inquires about purchasing Bear play-off tickets. The ticket teller
politely replies that there weren’t any tickets for sale because the Bears
did not make it to the play-offs.

This goes on for an entire week.

The man goes to the Bear ticket office inquiring about play-off tickets
and the teller again tells him there are no tickets for sale because the
Bears did not make it to the play-offs.

Another week of this goes by and the man still is asking the ticket teller
about Bear play-off tickets. Finally the ticket teller says in a loud
voice . . .

I’VE TOLD YOU FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS THERE ARE NO TICKETS AVAILABLE BECAUSE
THE BEARS DID NOT MAKE THE PLAY-OFFS.”

The man replied, “I know. I drive all the way from Green Bay just to hear
you say that!”

Damn You!!!

I am in my fantasy football championship today and Brett Favre isn’t helpin’ a brother out AT ALL. There’s money to be made, here… and you’re just not playing up to par. WTF! Seriously, Favre, you have a ZERO QB rating… Kyle freakin’ Orten is in the hundreds. Play friggin’ football, okay! GRRRRR!

Ricky Williams Suffers Season-Ending Chest Injury

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 by Fuzz

You would have thought that his chest would have been more resilient to abuse after years and years of puff-puff-give.

From SI.com:

The Miami Dolphins running back will miss the rest of the season with a torn chest muscle, according to his agent, Leigh Steinberg.

Williams was hurt Monday at Pittsburgh, when he played in his first game in nearly two years. He returned following a 1 1/2 -year suspension for his latest violation of the NFL drug policy.

Steinberg said the arm will be in a sling from four to six weeks and the rehab will take five months.

But Steinberg said Williams expects to be ready for next season.

Ricky said, “Rehab??? Here we go again…” (insert laugh track).

Bored? Build Miller Park out of Legos

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled onto a website where people post pictures of their Lego building feats…and found Miller Park.

Equipped with a moving roof, the 300 Club, TGI Fridays, Dugouts, etc.

PS. Dog, stop salivating and get back to work.

Mike Sherman to Coach Texas A&M

Monday, November 26th, 2007 by Fuzz

I wonder what Owen and Jed think about this:

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Former Green Bay Packers coach Mike Sherman was hired as Texas A&M’s coach Monday, three days after Dennis Franchione resigned.

Sherman’s current job is as the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator under Gary Kubiak, a former quarterback and assistant for the Aggies.

Sherman was A&M’s offensive line coach from 1989-93 and then in 1995-96 under R.C Slocum.

Franchione took a contract buyout and stepped down Friday, less than an hour after Texas A&M upset Texas 38-30. Defensive coordinator Gary Darnell was named interim coach Saturday and will lead the Aggies (7-5, 4-4 Big 12) in a bowl game.

Badgers Game

Sunday, November 11th, 2007 by Fuzz

Tracy and I went to the UW Badgers game against Michigan yesterday! It was a great game and it turned out well for, well, my team. :P Since Tracy is a native Michigander, she was adorned in maize and blue. That led to the drunken assholes behind us continually hitting her on the head every time Wisconsin did something good. We were both pretty annoyed toward the end of the game. It’s hard to believe that alcohol can make 40-something-year-old men act so damn adolescent, but it happens. The seats were pretty good and the cold weather made it feel like a football game. Next time I’m bringing a blanket… and a stun gun.

NASCAR Coach Reveals Winning Strategy: ‘Drive Fast’

R.I.P. Max McGee

Sunday, October 21st, 2007 by Fuzz

Former Green Bay Packer wide receiver and announcer, Max McGee, died after falling from the roof of his home in Minnesota. What a tragic way to go. :(

From Yahoo!:

Max McGee, the unexpected hero of the first Super Bowl and a long-time challenge for Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi, died Saturday after falling from the roof of his home, police confirmed. He was 75.

Police were called to the former Green Bay receiver’s Deephaven home around 5:20 p.m., Sgt. Chris Whiteside said. Efforts to resuscitate McGee were unsuccessful.

McGee was blowing leaves off the roof when he fell, according to news reports. A phone message left at a number listed for an M. McGee wasn’t immediately returned.

“I just lost my best friend,” former teammate Paul Hornung told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “(His wife) Denise was away from the house. She’d warned him not to get up there. He shouldn’t have been up there. He knew better than that.”

How ‘Bout Them Packers

Monday, October 15th, 2007 by Fuzz

Did anybody honestly think that the Packers would go into their bye week with a winning record, much less a 5-1 record? I know I didn’t. Hell, I thought that their record would have been the opposite of what it is now… though, I thought the one win that they would have had would have come against the Bears. ;) Anyway… now that the Badgers are sucking big time, it’s good to have a local team that we can still put some faith in.

Here’s a little ditty that I posted a few months ago… it was true then… it’s truer now… and it will remain true for eternity. Go Packers!!!

High School Heyday

Friday, October 5th, 2007 by Fuzz

For the first time in about, oh, years, I went to a high school football game. This evening, my pumpkin and I went to Lomira for the Mayville vs. Lomira match up. This year, I have taken my daughter to a couple of Admirals games (her favorite), two Brewers games, two Timber Rattlers games, we had floor seats at a Bucks game, and now she’s been to a football game, too.  Hockey is still her favorite, but she loves herself some football.

We got there a little late, so we ended up standing by the West end zone fence. At one point, a receiver just missed a touchdown right in front of us and he came running up by the fence to grab the ball. My daughter said, “He didn’t catch the ball. I want to hug him, daddy.” It was incredibly adorable.

Then, after a big tackle, everybody started cheering. My daughter shouts back to the crowd, “why are you clapping? He fell down!!!!!” I loves her!!!

I should have taken her to a game earlier… for now on I’ll remember that I can take her to high school games for some cheap daddy-daughter time.
