CNN article applauds wiretaps of MLK

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008 by Claude

Martin Luther King (a Shepard Fairey image)The article on CNN.com says that the FBI’s wiretapping of Martin Luther King Jr. shows his selflessness. The article goes on to quote scholar David Garrow who says “…in terms of the political history that ironically the FBI has created for us, it’s a wonderful resource”.

This is a very slippery slope to enter down. A quote like this actually seems to encourage wiretapping as a way to document history…and not show it for what it is, an invasion of people’s rights in the pursuit of a conviction of a false accusation (MLK’s being a communist in this case).

As news outlet, CNN should be more responsible than this.

License to have kids…

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 by Claude

Some people argue that humans should have to take classes and be given a license to have children.

…these types of stories make me agree with them.

From CNN.com

DALLAS, Texas (AP) — A woman threw her two young children from a freeway overpass during Wednesday’s morning rush before leaping off herself, police said, and somehow all three survived the 22-foot fall into traffic.

The 28-year-old mother and her sons, ages 8 and 6, were taken to hospitals, said Paul Lara, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman.

“It’s a miracle both kids weren’t hit directly by a passing car,” Dallas police Sgt. David Burroughs told The Dallas Morning News in Wednesday’s online edition.

The mother was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 30 near downtown and listed in critical condition, police said. The boys were in good condition at another hospital. One of the boys had a broken arm but both could communicate with paramedics, police said.

Police said the woman and children had been riding in a car with a man when the adults became involved in some sort of altercation. The woman and her children got out of the car and the man drove off, Burroughs said. Police were searching for the man.

A REAL American Hero

This is an amazing story:

Frank Woodruff Buckles was just 15 years old when he joined the U.S. Army. Soon, he was deployed to war and headed overseas on the Carpathia — the same ship used in the rescue mission of the Titanic.

He drove ambulances in Britain and France for soldiers wounded during World War I.

A few decades later, Buckles was in the Philippines as a civilian, on December 7, 1941, the day Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. He was taken as a prisoner of war for 39 months in Manila, eating his meals out of a single tin cup.

More than 60 years later, he still clings to that cup, the one that sustained his life. Weathered with age, the cup has flecks of white paint chipped off. He keeps it as a reminder of his sacrifice for the country he so loves. He also still has his dog tags.

At age 107, there’s not much the war veteran, POW and West Virginia farmer hasn’t seen. But this week, this quietly accomplished man was humbled.

CNN is at it again…

Monday, February 18th, 2008 by Claude

In an attempt (I assume) to improve security at schools, CNN has taken it upon themselves to request students fill out a form, send pictures and videos about their school security.  But, realistically, CNN wants to hear about the lack of security, and you can bet they will put together a 30 or 60 minute special on it, showing all of the video clips, pictures and comments from students, along with their specific institutions…pointing out all of the flaws…allowing any would-be-psychopaths to do their research on CNN, instead of having the possibility of someone actually seeing these nutbars doing their own work.

Way to go CNN.  First “how to sneak a bomb onto a plane” and now this.

I’m switching over to The Guardian or BBC to get any decent news.

Our children are going to be poisoned by thalates

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 by Claude

As a father of a young child, I was concerned when I heard the opening news blurb “toxic chemicals in your baby’s products“.  So, I waited around for 20 minutes for my local news to show the piece before becoming frustrated and checked out the piece on CNN.com.

Thalates may cause cancer and birth defects…and they aren’t required to be listed on ingredient lists. Even worse, CNN declines to disclose WHICH products MAY have thalates in them. Well, great coverage, real top notch investigative work folks.  Some chemical that may be in some product your baby uses every day MAY cause some problems, but we won’t tell you which products.  (Does anyone have a flashback to the original Batman movie and “Joker Products”?)

Instead, the reporter goes on to chuckle about how she uses olive oil instead of lotion on her baby.

*hiss*

Thoughts of going vegan like Fuzz

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 by Claude

I have always been empathic towards animals…but continue to eat meat.  After watching the video in this CNN.com report on the abuse of weakend/injured cows at a California slaughterhouse, I am about ready to jump the fence.  (I know Fuzz went veggie for a different reason…but I’m just throwing in with him).

Run for your lives…we’re all going to die!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 by Claude

Well, maybe not…but I am sure you haven’t heard that a large U.S. spy satellite has lost power and propulsion and could hit the Earth in late February or March.

According to a CNN.com story (that was buried behind their report of how to sneak bombs past TSA guards, The State of the Union Address and anything dealing with Britney Spears) goes on to say the satellite can no longer be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down.

Be sure to wear your helmet on the way to work today.

CNN tells you how to slip a bomb past airport security

Monday, January 28th, 2008 by Claude

I have to give a “Wag of the Finger” to CNN for a story I saw on their Early Edition this morning and now the main post on their website, CNN.com, they tell of a method of breaching TSA Security. (From CNN.com)

Jason that’s the name CNN was asked to call him slides a simulated explosive into an elastic back support. The mock bomb is as slim as a wallet; its fuse, the size of a cigarette. He wraps the support around his torso, and the bomb fits comfortably into the small of his back.

It’s hard to tell he’s concealing anything; harder still when he dons a black T-shirt and a maroon golf shirt.

Then, with CNN’s cameras in tow, Jason heads to Tampa International Airport, where he’ll try to sneak the fake explosive past security screeners.

While I am a fan of the freedom of the press…I have to give CNN a little shot to the solar-plexus for this one.  TISK TISK!

Hate Crimes/Bullsh!t UP 8%

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 by Fuzz

The media has a raging hard on for the recent FBI “findings” that hate crimes have jumped 8%. Not taken into account in this survey, the number of “hate crimes” that weren’t being recorded as “hate crimes” before the phrase became a favorite of the talking heads. So, are there actually MORE hate crimes, or are there more REPORTS of hate crimes. The world may never know.

AP Photographer/Terrorist

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 by Fuzz

If you had doubts that some of the national media was in bed with the terrorists, this should set your mind straight… at least a little bit.

From CNN:

The U.S. military says it has “convincing and irrefutable” evidence that an award-winning Associated Press photographer is connected to the insurgency in Iraq.

The photographer, Bilal Hussein Zaidon, faces charges in the Iraqi Central Court based on the evidence, Pentagon officials said Monday.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell and other U.S. military officials would not say directly what charges he faced. They referred reporters to the Iraqi court system.

Hussein, an Iraqi who lives in the western Anbar province city of Ramadi, has been held without charge by the U.S. military since April 2006, when bomb parts and insurgent propaganda were found in his house after the U.S. military asked to use it as an observation post during an operation.

Hussein was already under suspicion by the U.S. military because he arrived at terrorist attack sites so quickly that they suspected he had advance knowledge of attacks, according to Morrell.

Emphasis mine. This sickens me.

If You Claim to Have a Gun…

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 by Fuzz

…and you threaten to kill somebody, you should still expect the police to treat you like you have a gun. Even if all you really have is a hairbrush.

From CNN:

Officers shot and killed an 18-year-old man who they believed to be armed, New York police said, but witnesses said Tuesday he was only holding a hairbrush.

The Monday night shooting followed a 911 call from the man’s mother. Police described the situation as “a family dispute with a gun.”

After officers arrived, the teen refused to halt as he approached police, prompting them to open fire, The Associated Press reported.

Police told The New York Times they believed the teen, Khiel Coppin, had a gun, but after five officers fired 20 shots they realized he was holding only a hairbrush.

“The boy didn’t have no gun, he had a brush on him,” said Andre Wildman, a neighbor who told CNN that he saw the shooting.

Smoke and Mirrors

Friday, October 19th, 2007 by Fuzz

Mark, my news guy, had a story on this morning about David Copperfield’s storage facility being raided and $2 Million cash being seized. The Las Vegas Review-Journal is chocking it up to “possible sexual misconduct by the illusionist.”

From CNN.com:

FBI agents searched a Las Vegas, Nevada, warehouse owned by illusionist David Copperfield, according to an FBI spokesman, adding that the Wednesday night raid was related to a case based in Seattle.

I Never Really Cared For Her Anyway

Jorja Fox is leaving CSI.  At least she is leaving to follow her dreams.

From CNN:

“If I thought the show were on its last legs, I would have tried harder to stay the course,” said Fox, whose contract expired in May. “But I feel like it’s going to be around for a while, so if I don’t want some of those dreams to pass me by, I have to get off the ride for a while.”
